Academic editing
I have worked on many earth and environmental science
papers written by academics from
non-English speaking backgrounds. Most of this work has been to
satisfy publishers' requirement that manuscripts by these authors have
been edited by a native speaker of English
before submission. Depending on authors' needs, I can work to either
American or British spelling and other conventions.
I have edited papers for submission to
journals including:
- Atmospheric Environment (Elsevier)
- Earth and Planetary Science Letters (Elsevier)
- EOS (AGU)
- Geochemical Journal (TerraPub)
- Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta (Elsevier)
- Geophysical Research Letters (AGU)
- Geophysics (SEG)
- Global and Planetary Change (Elsevier)
- Island Arc (Blackwell)
- Journal of Arid Environments (Elsevier)
- Journal of Geophysical Research (AGU)
- Journal of Hydrology (Elsevier)
- Journal of Sedimentary Research (SEPM)
- Landscape and Urban Planning (Elsevier)
- Lithos (Elsevier)
- Nature — Letters (Nature Publishing Group)
- Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research (Elsevier)
- Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology (Elsevier)
- Science of the Total Environment (Elsevier)
- Sedimentary Geology (Elsevier)
- Sedimentology (Blackwell)
- Tectonophysics (Elsevier)
- Water Research (Elsevier)
- Water Resources Research (AGU).
During the fifteen years I worked in the publication group of the
Geological Survey of Western
Australia I edited manuscripts and maps prepared for publication
by research geologists, many of whom hold PhDs and have gained
international recognition for their work in a variety of fields including structural geology,
basin studies, carbonate sedimentology, mineralization studies,
hydrogeology, geochemistry and regolith studies, geochronology, palaeontology, and
petrology.
As I have tertiary qualifications in geology and geophysics, while
editing geoscientific work I can often address some of the issues
that might otherwise arise during peer review.
